A “What’s new” panel and a notice about planned maintenance
A short panel with the latest product news now sits above the list of leads, and before a maintenance window a notice appears at the top of every page, with the time in the office time zone.
An update that shipped did not always reach the people working in the system: a new button simply appeared somewhere on the screen. There is now a “What’s new” panel above the list of leads holding up to three of the latest product news items: a heading, one line of description and a link to the item on the website, which opens in a new tab. The panel is shown in the interface language of whoever is reading it. The “Read” button removes it until the next item.
- The panel does not reach the website from the user’s browser. The server itself fetches the news feed once a day and keeps a snapshot, and the panel is shown from that snapshot.
- A network failure breaks nothing: the last successful snapshot is shown.
- Someone signing in for the first time sees news no older than 30 days rather than the whole history.
The second panel is “Planned maintenance”. A day before a maintenance window and during it, a notice appears at the top of every page of the panel with the text and the time, in the office time zone. It cannot be dismissed, and it disappears on its own once the window is over. This notice is placed by the Lidin operator, not by the office.
Both panels are about time rather than about the work itself: one says what has changed in the system, the other when the system will be unavailable. Neither of them touches the leads.
